History of the BB Spreader

Welcome to the home of the most reliable fish feed spreader on the market? when sales increase year on year and after 10 years in service you know you are doing a good job.  This spreader has been very well designed and made for a long service life with no maintenance, you can buy it with confidence that it will do the job required.

The story of the BB air spreader started 10 years ago when a Norwegian  customer, who’s stainless spreaders we had been making for 8 years, decided to start making their new design stainless steel spreaders at a new manufacturing base they had set up in Asia.

We knew that all air spreaders on the market were not lasting as long as they should, and also that Fish Farmers hated the fact that some had to be taken out of service to be filled with grease every couple of months.

We wanted to make an air spreader that was completely maintenance free,  and also lasted longer than the industry standard (3 to 9 months) before being stripped down for repair.

After speaking with a well known designer of fish farm equipment and passing a few idea’s between us, we came up with a completely new concept in design but we were unsure how long it would last. We built 4 and they were sent to 3 different Norwegian rough weather sites for winter testing to see how they did.

After 8 months we asked for them back for evaluation but the farmers were very reluctant to take them out of service. In the end we got one back, stripped it down to check for any signs of wear, we were very pleased that there was hardly any wear, see pictures below. It was cleaned and re-assembled with the same balls, returned to service later that week and it was still working over 3 years later when we asked about it and it had not even had new balls fitted.

We have been asked to make several adaptors to enable the spreader to be fitted into service on various floats that a farmer may have already bought with other spreaders, plus hamster cage supports of various types, we can also supply a compact Aluminium raft if required. Please see our Datasheet for more information.

We modified the design of the spreader in 2017 to make the unit more compact and make setting it up even easier. We also fitted a cap at the suggestion of our customers to make it more fish friendly.
